In Gávea, there is also a "political campaign"

Renato explains the fight for starting spots by drawing an analogy with elections

This Sunday, Brazil will elect its governor for the next four years. The elections are the big topic of the weekend, with even football taking a back seat. But within Flamengo's group, there's also campaigning and competition for seats. This isn't related to politics, nor to the rivalry that's been evident between the parties, but rather to football, on the field, without "betrayal."

Everyone wants to please manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo. In a very homogeneous squad of around 30 players, each player wants their chance to establish themselves in the starting lineup. In defense, midfield, and attack, competition for positions is fierce, and supporter Renato sees this competition as a plus for the Red-Blacks.

"The group has 30 players. Of course, the coach can't use everyone, nor can he please everyone, but he's given them chances. Of course, everyone wants to be a starter. I myself play every Wednesday and every Sunday if I can. Everyone wants to get promoted, train hard, but it's a healthy fight and a rivalry that doesn't interfere with the work. Everyone has the ambition to get promoted and earn a spot in the starting lineup," he said.

The variety of options makes it easier for coaches to choose a specific formation. There are players both creative and aggressive, fast and able to control the game, experienced and young... A real treat for Luxa.

"Each player has their own characteristics. I shoot from outside the box, Willians scores more, there's also Kleberson, Pet, Correa, Maldonado... There are many options and Vanderlei observes who he can use best depending on the match," added Renato.
