The cooler climate of Teresópolis doesn't scare Rafael Galhardo. Accustomed to his hometown, Nova Friburgo, the player feels quite comfortable at Granja Comary. After all, it's not the first time he'll be training there with a youth national team. It is, however, perhaps the most important training camp of his career, with the under-20 national team competing in the South American Championship in Peru, a qualifying tournament for the Olympics and the World Cup in that category.
After a promising season at Flamengo, Galhardo is ceasing to be a promising player and beginning to become a reality. With the confidence of coach Ney Franco and the support of his club teammates, he arrives at the national team with high hopes. He wants not only to be important in this South American Championship, but also to secure a place in the squad that will go to London in 2012.
Furthermore, he clearly wants to return to Flamengo with high morale and take advantage of the club's policy of valuing its youth academy. After all, Flamengo's coach, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, has already hinted at the possibility of using many young players in the 2011 season. In an interview with the official website, Galhardo spoke about all these expectations for the future.

Call for applications - I'm very happy to have been called up to close out the year. It came at a good time. Unfortunately, the campaign wasn't good here, but we stayed in Serie A and now it's time to move forward. So, I can think about going to the national team calmly, and, God willing, do a good job. For next year, I believe we'll be fighting for titles again.
Appreciation - It's different, it's a dream come true. It's a year of recognition. It's great to be up here. Diego and Welinton are doing a good job. I'm waiting for my chance and, God willing, everything will work out when it comes.
Future - My focus is on Flamengo. I have a contract until 2012 and I'm only thinking about this. Whatever comes next is a consequence of my work. I hope to do a good job with the national team and we'll see what happens.
Olympics - Being on the national team is a dream come true, but competing in the Olympics is what every young kid dreams of. It's a great opportunity. Good things come naturally if you do a good job. That's what I hope for.
Under-20 Group – It's an excellent group, with players I already know from playing against them and others who have been on the national team with me. I'm sure this team will do well in the South American Championship. The coaching staff is experienced, they will do their best, and we will go for the title.
