The draw felt like a defeat, but Flamengo's situation in the Copa Santander Libertadores isn't yet a serious concern for the red-and-blacks. Next Wednesday, the team returns to action in the competition against Universidad Católica, and they're highly motivated to earn three more points and continue their fight for qualification for the final stage.
With seven points, the Gávea team is second in the standings, and Universidad de Chile is first with eight. The gap is small, and according to Willians, there's still room for a spot in the round of 16.
"Now we'll depend on the other teams too. If they draw and we win, we'll qualify. We have to do our part on the field. Today the team had more possession. In the first half, we didn't shoot much, but in the second half we did well with Mezenga coming on. We messed up, but we can't let our heads drop," said midfielder Willians.
Defender Ronaldo Angelim, who returned to the starting lineup in Thursday's match against "La U", praised the red-black team's dedication and expressed confidence in qualifying.
"Of course, there's a bad feeling about what the team did, especially in the second half. We started the game losing, but we fought hard for the result, giving our all, but we have to be patient, because sometimes we concede a goal at the end. There are two games left, and we need to keep our heads up, because we can still qualify," he added.
