At Castelão, Flamengo loses to Fortaleza in the Copa do Brasil
The return match will take place in Volta Redonda on May 18th
By Francisco Freire* - inOn Wednesday night (04), Flamengo was defeated by Fortaleza by 2 to 1, in the first leg of the second phase of the 2016 Copa do Brasil. Now, Mais Querido needs to win the return duel by a simple score to advance. The match will take place on the 18th, 21:45 pm, in Volta Redonda.
The game
From the start, Flamengo sought the match's main offensive moves. Fortaleza, with its defense closed off, blocked the red-and-black attack, stifling the play in midfield. With five players in the midfield, the opponent was devastating and looking for a slip-up to threaten Paulo Victor's goal.
With possession but few opportunities, Mengão took the lead in the 8th minute, with a powerful shot from Mancuello. However, it was the home team who opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with a low shot from Anselmo after a counterattack.
With the game winning, Fortaleza completely closed in on its defense. Flamengo persisted, and found the equalizer with a goal from Guerrero. Following a pass from Willian Arão, the Peruvian controlled the ball between three defenders and finished for his tenth goal of the season.
However, six minutes later, Felipe made a great individual play and sealed the victory. Flamengo now turns its attention to its Brasileirão debut on May 14th at 05 p.m. against Sport Recife.
