It was a memorable night at Maracanã. In their final match at the "Biggest Stadium in the World" in 2019, Mengão put on a show: 6-1 over Avaí in the penultimate round of the Brazilian Championship. De Arrascaeta, Diego, Gabigol, Lincoln, and Reinier scored twice. The Nation also put on a show. Over 69 fans were in attendance.

The game

The game belonged entirely to Mengão. From the start of the first half, the Rubro-Negro, attacking their opponents, quickly opened the scoring. In the 10th minute, after a well-rehearsed play, De Arrascaeta scored: 1-0. In the 21st minute, Avaí, in their only real chance of the first half, equalized. Lourenço lucked out by scoring from outside the box. From then on, things got tough for the Santa Catarina team. In the 36th minute, Diego fired a shot from outside the box to put Mengão ahead: 2-1. In the 38th minute, Gabigol extended the lead for Mengão with a beautiful goal from outside the box: 3-1.

In the second half, Avaí's favorite team continued to dominate. In the 11th minute, Lincoln capitalized on a blunder by Avaí's defense to score the fourth goal for the red-and-black team. And it didn't stop there. Reinier came off the bench to score two more goals with great opportunism: 6-1 and a celebration for the nation.

It's worth remembering that this was Mengão's third 6-1 victory of the season. The Mais Querido (Most Beloved) finishes the Brazilian Championship undefeated at home. Without the Nation, this would be impossible. So here's another one: Thank you, Nation!

And now?

Flamengo returns to the field on Sunday to face Santos, away from home, in the final round of the Brazilian Championship.
