The Flamengo delegation arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday afternoon with their duty fulfilled and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Copa Santander Libertadores in their luggage. Having been given the day off, some players chose to stay in São Paulo and will only return to Rio for Friday's training session at Ninho do Urubu. Those who arrived on the flight with the coaching staff, on the other hand, were warmly welcomed at Santos Dumont Airport.
Ronaldo Angelim, Rômulo, Vinicius Pacheco, Fierro, Marcelo Lomba, and Dênis Marques arrived in the Marvelous City along with coach Rogério Lourenço and several fans who were also returning from São Paulo after watching the match at Pacaembu Stadium. Proud president Patricia Amorim once again praised the team.
"I've always trusted this team. We struggled throughout the Libertadores, but we advanced. I'm incredibly proud of these players. It's going to continue to be difficult from now on, but I trust this group," he said.
Coach Rogério Lourenço, calmly, once again emphasized the importance of the team understanding that the match would not be decided solely by the result of the first game and assured that the group is aware that it has not yet achieved anything.
"It was very important to get the result at Maracanã, but that wasn't the determining factor. The main thing was that the team understood it was a 180-minute match and had the composure to change their approach in the second half and score the goal, which was what we needed. Qualifying was good, but we have to keep our feet on the ground, because we haven't achieved anything yet," he concluded.
Flamengo is off this Thursday and will return to training on Friday afternoon at the club's Ninho do Urubu training center in Vargem Grande. The players will begin preparing for their Brazilian Championship debut on Sunday against São Paulo.
