Official note - Thiago Maia

By - in

In light of the recent news about athlete Thiago Maia, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo clarifies that the player was transferred in March 2024, through a contract that established clear financial obligations, including a payment schedule previously agreed upon and approved by the parties.

However, Sport Club Internacional has so far failed to meet the established deadlines and honor its financial commitments. As a result, Flamengo formally filed a complaint with the CBF's National Dispute Resolution Commission (CNRD) in November 2024, but has yet to receive a response from the body.

Flamengo reaffirms its commitment to integrity and legal certainty in its negotiations and, for this reason, will require, in future transactions, cash payments or fiduciary guarantees to mitigate risks.

Furthermore, the club reinforces the need for stricter sanctions against those who fail to fulfill contractual commitments, a recurring issue in Brazilian football. Similar cases, such as that involving Cuiabá Esporte Clube and defender Joaquim, highlight the urgent need for more effective measures to ensure compliance with agreements. In solidarity with the team from the Central-West region and all others facing the same situation, Flamengo will continue to take all applicable legal measures to protect its rights and ensure compliance with its contracts.
