Official Note - State 2016

By - in
Since the beginning of President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello's first term, CR Flamengo has firmly opposed the FERJ's management practices and methods. Due to this stance and the blatant and unjustifiable disrespect to which the club was subjected during the Arbitration Council meeting on January 30, 01, CR Flamengo decided not to compete in the 2015 Campeonato Carioca with its main squad, unless FERJ accepted the set of demands that CR Flamengo and Fluminense FC made clear during the reelection process of the current board of directors and in a statement published on the day of the aforementioned Arbitration Council meeting. Another scenario in which CR Flamengo would consider withdrawing its intention to not use its main squad would be if the competition's broadcast rights holders determined otherwise.

CR Flamengo's position was extensively discussed with Rede Globo throughout 2015, without any determination to the contrary. CR Flamengo's objective was to guarantee our commercial partners sports programming throughout the State Championship period that would compensate for any potential losses that might be caused by the use of an alternative roster in the competition.

However, this Friday, January 8, CR Flamengo received a formal communication from Rede Globo determining that the position adopted by the club be reviewed, based on the broadcast contract for the State Championship signed by FERJ and the clubs in 2010 and which ends in 2016.

Therefore, in compliance with a previously signed commercial agreement and CR Flamengo's constant determination to avoid embarrassment and/or losses to our partners, we inform you that, contrary to what had been previously communicated, CR Flamengo will compete in the 2016 Campeonato Carioca with its main squad. This new reality, despite the disruption to the Football Department, which in its 2016 planning sized the squad to compete on two parallel fronts, will not conflict with the decision to also use the main squad in the Primeira Liga.

We reiterate that this measure is solely due to the commercial relationship between the club and Rede Globo, and does not in any way imply that CR Flamengo validates the role that FERJ has been playing in managing football in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In our understanding, the lack of transparency, the well-known organizational flaws, and the other abuses committed by that institution in recent years continue to hinder the development of football in the state and do not have the support of CR Flamengo.

On the contrary, our purpose remains the same and the interests of the Red-Black Nation will certainly be safeguarded under the terms of the State Championship television contract that will come into effect from 2017.

We thank the fans and everyone who has always supported our position and declare that CR Flamengo, despite the setback that respecting the signed contract imposes on us, will continue to fight for the improvements that Rio de Janeiro football has long needed and deserves.
