Flamengo and Portuguesa reached a strategic agreement on Monday, November 21st, involving the use of Portuguesa's stadium. Starting January 1st, 2017, Flamengo will be able to play its games at the arena.

"This was a very important move because it guarantees Flamengo a stadium to host its matches, regardless of what happens to Maracanã or our plans to have our own large stadium. I am very grateful to Portuguesa for their trust and partnership. I am certain that together we will transform the stadium into an important sports venue in Rio de Janeiro. And I am very happy for the partnership because it was there, on the Island, that I witnessed Doval's first goal for the red and black team, in 1969," recalls Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, president of Flamengo.

"The partnership is very important for Portuguesa. We are defending our interests and those of Rio de Janeiro football, ensuring that the state's most important matches continue to be held here. The partnership will allow for the appreciation of our assets and provide greater benefits and comfort to our members. Furthermore, it solidifies Ilha do Governador as one of the main venues for Rio de Janeiro football," says Portuguesa president João Rego.

The pre-contract for the use of Portuguesa's stadium, to be ratified by Flamengo's Deliberative Council, was signed in Gávea and the ceremony was attended by President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, President João Rego, Portuguesa's Legal Vice President, Alexandre Ayres, Portuguesa's Vice President of Football, Marcelo Barros, Flamengo's Vice President of Finance, Claudio Pracownik, Flamengo's Vice President of Assets, Alexandre Wrobel, the club's Vice President of Administration, Rafael Strauch, and Flamengo's General Director, Fred Luz.
