Official note about the Primeira Liga

It was with a great sense of responsibility and commitment that, in September 2015, after several meetings, the 15 football clubs that subscribe to this statement founded the Primeira Liga, aiming to organize a competition among their members, which will begin on the 27th of this month.
From the outset, the 15 clubs have strictly adhered to all obligations required by the Pelé Law, the Fan Statute, and the Civil Code. The Primeira Liga, above all, is a legalistic entity, in the legal sense of the word. Any claims that the Primeira Liga has not complied with Brazilian law are nothing more than unfounded rhetoric, stemming solely from the fear that prevails among some organizations that the clubs will finally be given their rightful role in the organization of Brazilian football.
We are well aware of the reality of football and its current problems. We understand the responsibility we have to the fans of each of the 15 clubs. Therefore, founding the Primeira Liga was not only an act of creating a new competition, but also an initiative that aims to initiate a new process of discussing the problems facing football in Brazil.
Over the past few weeks, the President of the Primeira Liga has been in constant contact with CBF directors and the President on leave, Marco Polo Del Nero, with a view to integrating the competition into the 2017 calendar, with some modifications to the competition's criteria. Following this, we secured a commitment from the CBF that there would be no objections to holding the competition in 2016.
Our greatest response will be on the field. Therefore, we call on football fans to join us in demonstrating the strength of clubs in national football. Let's make the Copa Sul-Minas-Rio a grand celebration, where violence must be a non-issue and fans can show their pride in supporting their favorite club. We hope that, on the field, the best team will win, and that they will be crowned, on March 31st, with the trophy of the first official Primeira Liga competition.
