Flamengo idols Nunes and Gabigol inaugurated the Maracanã Walk of Fame on Tuesday afternoon. The tribute took place in the stadium's Grandstand. Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim attended the event.

"For me, it's a great honor, a very important day. To be honored, to have my feet on the Maracanã Walk of Fame... It's a feeling of accomplishment. I'm very happy. I did a wonderful job as a soccer player, becoming a national idol. Always with the help of my teammates," said Nunes, hero of the Mais Querido's first Brazilian title in 1980.

He scored two goals in the decisive game, a 3-2 victory over Atlético-MG at Maraca.

"The most important goal in Nunes' history was against Atlético-MG. That's where it all started. I scored the first and third goals, the title-winning goal. Flamengo became Brazilian champions for the first time," added the Top Scorer of the Decisions.

Top scorer at the New Maracanã, Gabigol also spoke.

"I'm very happy for this moment. I thank God first. I also thank my family, my friends... The Flamengo staff, the president, especially my teammates. Without them, this wouldn't have happened. They're the ones who bring the ball to me. I also thank Nunes. It's an honor to wear the jersey that was once his. I thank the Flamengo fans for their affection and respect. I hope we can continue these years of titles and goals. And the best way for me to repay them is by giving my all on the field. May we win this Carioca and start the year well," said Gabi. 

Just like Nunes, the player was celebrated by the fans present and received the blessing of the Top Scorer of the Decisions.

"I just have to bless you. You're wearing the number 9 jersey. I just have to bless you and hope you can give Flamengo its second world title. You have my support and that of all my teammates," said Nunes.

Remember that Flamengo, led by Gabi, returns to the field to decide the Campeonato Carioca on March 31st. The Rubro-Negro awaits the winner of the match between Botafogo and Fluminense.
