Bruno reveals that he will not give up on his goalkeeping coach, Roberto Barbosa

They say the only place where success comes before hard work is in the dictionary. Goalkeeper Bruno is a true believer in this saying. A hero in the derby against Vasco last Sunday, the red-and-black goalkeeper dedicated his penalty saves from Dodô to goalkeeping coach Roberto Barbosa and backup goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba. Two great companions in the number 1's arduous daily routine.
Roberto is considered Bruno's guardian angel. The goalkeeper himself warns anyone interested in snatching either of them from Flamengo: he won't give up on the coach.
"Roberto is a guy I wouldn't give up on for anything. Tomorrow or the day after, if an offer comes in, I'll try to take him with me. If he gets an offer, I'll do everything I can to make sure he stays. He's a guy I trust, who likes to work and has brought goalkeepers here who also like it," he said.
Praised by the goalkeeper's compliments, Roberto assures that there's no special work done with Bruno. For the coach, what makes the difference is the quality of the red-and-black captain.
"There's no secret. He's a great goalkeeper, with a lot of quality, and when it comes to penalties, that's what counts. The work I do with him is tough, but it's normal. It's no different from what other goalkeepers do. Everything he's achieved at Flamengo is the result of his work. He has a lot of willpower and perseverance, and that pays off," he observed.
Marcelo Lomba, to whom Bruno dedicated the first penalty saved in the classic, also works with Roberto at Flamengo.
"Marcelo, despite his young age, is a goalkeeper who dedicates himself to training and has a promising future. I have a lot of affection for him, and he gives me a lot of positive energy before the game," explained the goalkeeper.
Since joining Flamengo in 2006, Bruno has played 214 matches for Flamengo, conceding 262 goals (an average of 1,22 per game). Of those, he kept 71 clean sheets. He also made history by scoring three times (two from free kicks and one from the penalty spot). A player with a strong personality, he took over as captain after defender Fábio Luciano retired and lifted the Brazilian championship title last year.
