Cruzeiro was the last team to achieve the feat of beating Flamengo, the current Brazilian champion and three-time Rio de Janeiro champion, at their home stadium, Maracanã, before last Wednesday's match, when Botafogo defeated the red-and-blacks 2-1 in the semifinals of the Guanabara Cup, the first round of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship. Therefore, in addition to the elimination, coach Andrade lamented the fact that he had lost his unbeaten streak in the world's biggest stadium.

In 2010, Flamengo was enjoying a near-perfect campaign at the Maracanã. Even when trailing 3-1 at halftime of the Fla-Flu match, where a player was even sent off, the red-and-blacks managed to come back and win 5-3.
