The Emperor stays until May

Striker Adriano and his agent, Gilmar Rinaldi, have already announced: the center forward will remain at Gávea until the end of his contract in May 2010. After that, however, there is no certainty. The club hopes to count on the player if they advance to the final stages of the Copa Libertadores, but European football also dreams of repatriating the Emperor. Until then, however, the number 10 is only focused on continuing to make history at the Mais Querido.
Gilmar, a former Flamengo goalkeeper, guaranteed the Emperor's stay until the end of his contract. The agent explained Adriano's reasons for opting for Gávea, but warned that it's still too early to discuss a possible extension of the striker's contract with the club.
"He didn't come for the financial aspect and he wouldn't leave for that reason. His wallet didn't affect him. There were good offers, but he's here, he's happy and wants to stay in Brazil and at Flamengo. His return was very successful, with the team winning the championship and him becoming an idol to the fans, so there's no reason to leave now," said Rinaldi.
In addition to his good form on the field, the Emperor also cited family, friends, and the affection of the Red-Black Nation as key factors in his continued presence at the club.
