The anticipation for this moment grew exponentially as the seconds ticked by. A long, multi-step recovery that required hard work, support from the club's coaching staff, and a lot of willpower. The just result of so much time invested could not have been otherwise.

In front of more than 30 fans at the Maracanã stadium, Ederson made his long-awaited return to the field to once again defend the Sacred Mantle. To a standing ovation from the nation, who cheered his entrance onto the field, chanting his name at the top of their lungs, the number 10 played for 25 minutes. The star exuded genuine happiness at being able to play alongside his teammates again.

After a hard tackle against Corinthians in the first round of the 2016 Brazilian Championship, Ederson was diagnosed with a bone injury, which began with physical therapy and muscle strengthening exercises. However, arthroscopy on his left knee was required.

In the period following the surgery, he was constantly present at Flamengo's Performance Excellence Center (CEP FLA), receiving medical, physiological, physical therapy, and psychological monitoring to ensure he was in the best condition for his return. Daniel Gonçalves, the squad's physical trainer, explains the situation.

"Ederson was out for a long time, not exactly inactive because he had been training, but it was an unusual injury, relatively serious, that altered his motor skills. We spent some time fighting to get him back to the level of a proper soccer player," he says. The coach praised the red-and-black number 10's attitude during his recovery.

"He was very disciplined, realized he had to increase his strength levels, reprogram his motor skills through training, and gradually, he succeeded," he says. Daniel also commented on Ederson's effective return to the field.

"I've been training for weeks. There's the question of rhythm, the ideal time to put him in. We're coming off decisive matches, and we have to focus on the team first. Ederson has always been very consistent, very sensible in his interpretations, and yesterday he returned, rewarding his efforts. Now, we have areas to improve, such as rhythm and specific physical conditions," he concluded.

The Flamengo midfielder says he went through difficult times during his recovery. The support of his family, teammates, and fans was crucial to his focus on the process.

"I tried to stay focused on work. I often came for treatment and exercise every morning and afternoon to stay focused, concentrated on what I had to do. Of course, as time goes by and we see little progress, sadness and anguish set in... And then it starts to get more difficult," he recalls.

"At this time, I've relied heavily on my family. My wife and son give me a lot of support every day. The part of my family that lives in the interior of São Paulo also calls me constantly and has come to Rio a few times to spend time with me. Of course, I've also had a lot of support from Flamengo fans. Wherever I went, there was always someone giving me a word of encouragement, strength, and faith. All of this has kept me focused and working, always with great faith that this period could serve to strengthen me even further, with the complete certainty that I would be able to return, get well, and do what I love most: playing soccer," he says.

For Ederson, the match against Atlético-GO marked a day of very positive feelings. The emotions began in the locker room.

"It was really exciting for me. It wasn't enough to be back after so long... It was really cool. Before the pre-match talk, Zé Ricardo welcomed me back, the group applauded me, it was very gratifying and exciting. Furthermore, arriving at Maracanã, seeing the fans chanting my name, cheering me on, supporting me... that really is a source of great joy and happiness, I just have to thank everyone," he says with a smile. The midfielder explains how he plans to show his gratitude.

"I hope to keep improving my game rhythm and team spirit, so that I can repay all the affection from the nation, my teammates, the coaching staff, and everyone who has always supported me," he says.

Another quality player returns to coach Zé Ricardo's lineup for the challenges facing the Mais Querido. The squad is further strengthened for the season, adding value to the group both on and off the field.
