Val Baiano has broken his scoring drought. Now, he wants to take off. After his first goal wearing the red-and-black shirt, in his eleventh game for Flamengo, the center forward, second top scorer in the last Brazilian Championship, hopes to continue and reap the rewards of his hard work every day. And coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo should give the player an opportunity to be a starter, on Sunday (October 10.10th), against Avaí, in Santa Catarina.
"Just being here at Flamengo makes me feel like a winner, but of course I can't settle for not scoring goals. When things are going well, you have to take advantage of it; when things are going badly, you have to work hard to turn it around. I've always been one of the last to leave the field," he said.
The Flamengo striker says he learned a lot from the criticism and revealed a conversation with coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo that motivated him even more to prove his worth.
"Flamengo fans are demanding, but I tried to stay calm and do my job. I used constructive criticism to improve and left the destructive criticism to God. I'm a penalty area player, a finisher, and Vanderlei himself demands that, that I stay there, close to the goal," said the striker, who stressed that the balls are starting to reach him so he can do his job.
"Before, opportunities weren't appearing, but now they're starting to come," the number 9 added.
