The new Sacred Mantle

Flamengo and Olympikus launch new uniforms for the 2010 season

By - in
After two months of suspense, Flamengo and Olympikus presented the club's uniforms for the 19 season late this Friday morning (February 02th). Kleberson and David, the first wearing uniform number 2010 (red-black) and the second wearing uniform number 1 (white), had the honor of parading with the new Sacred Mantles.

Another highlight was Bruno. The goalkeeper presented the new model bearing his signature. The team's debut in the uniform will be on April 22nd, in Flamengo's first game in the Copa Libertadores, at the Maracanã, against Universidad Católica. Goalkeepers Marcelo Lomba and Paulo Victor also participated in the event.

Shortly before the parade, Flamengo president Patricia Amorim gave a brief statement. "Today is another special day for Flamengo. This partnership [with Olympikus] has brought fantastic results for all sports and for the youth teams. This partnership is essential for Flamengo," she stated.

Flamengo's vice president of marketing, Henrique Brandão, praised the designs. "They look really nice. We're going to sell a lot of shirts. According to Olympikus, they already have an order for around 200 shirts. We're going to break the record again this year."

The red-and-black number 1 shirt maintains approximately the same stripe size as the 2009 model. Olympikus product manager, Fernando Costa, explains: "We didn't make any major changes to the number 1 uniform. We thought it best to maintain the same stripe thickness out of respect for the consumer who bought the previous model, so there wouldn't be much of a difference."

The white number 2 jersey features an innovation. The black and red colors form a single stripe down the middle of the jersey. "The number 2 jersey has always been very traditional. For the first time in history, we were able to change it, with the approval of the majority of the Council.

The goalkeeper's jersey comes in four styles: one white with red details; one black with red details; one blue with yellow details; and one gray.

The first jerseys are already on sale. According to Olympikus marketing manager Tullio Formicola Filho, priority was given to the first jersey due to the recent sponsorship deal with BMG. "We expect all sponsors to be signed so we can launch the same jersey by the end of the year. The second jersey and the goalkeeper jersey will start arriving at the end of next week."
