From a quick promotion to training separately from the rest of the squad, young Paulo Sérgio experienced both good and bad times with Flamengo. A product of the youth academy and a standout player on the three-time junior champion team in 2005, 2006, and 2007, the striker had a few opportunities with the senior team and scored three goals in 2007, but ultimately failed to thrive and was less frequently used.

However, this Tuesday (15.06), the player found reasons to smile again. After a week working hard with other youth academy talents at Gávea to get in better physical shape, he was reinstated to the red-black squad by coach Rogério Lourenço.

"I'm very happy. It's a new beginning for me. In recent years, I haven't had many opportunities. I was training away from the group, and now Rogério has given me this new chance. I hope to seize it in the best way possible," said the player.

The need to sign attackers is clear at Rubro-Negro, and Paulo hopes to take advantage of this opportunity to prove his worth and establish himself.

"I know that with the departure of some forwards, a gap has opened up in the squad, and I'm going to do everything I can to take advantage of it. I want to have my opportunities, show my football, and stay here at Flamengo for a long time," he added.

At 21, Paulo Sérgio has already played 27 games for Flamengo and scored three goals. In 2009, he appeared in only two matches, and he has yet to play this year.
