"Time is short, but you can't just hire anyone"
Rogério reiterates that he trusts the board's work to maintain a strong squad.

The hiring process at Flamengo is already being heavily discussed in the press, especially after the loss to Fluminense. In a press conference held on Wednesday (May 26.05), Rogério Lourenço reiterated that he has no doubt that the Rubro-Negro will continue with a strong squad to defend the Brasileirão title. The difference, according to the coach, is that the negotiations are being conducted without being made public.
Amidst the flurry of players coming and going in Brazilian football, Rogério knows he will soon have a strong, formed group.
"We don't need to act in desperation. The board is right to seek what's best for Flamengo, which are quality players. I know the club is working to renew the contracts of those who are here and to bring in the players we need. I see Flamengo working in a new, different, but correct way. Different from what it did before," the coach stated, adding that not just any reinforcement will do.
"We know it's not easy to hire, but we want the best. We're not going to buy what's off the shelf. Time is short, but we can't just hire anyone," explained Rogério.
Aware of the deficiencies of the red-black squad, the coach also listed the main reinforcements he expects from the board.
"Regarding our needs, we're seeing a need for forwards. We're also thinking about a midfielder, since we haven't finalized Pet's contract renewal. Back there, in defense, we have two good young talents, Fabrício and Welliton, but I believe we need a more experienced player. Especially since David and Álvaro are also going through this renewal process," he said.
Aired in Gávea, Montillo's name had the approval of the coach, who spoke openly about the Argentine midfielder from Universidad de Chile.
"Flamengo is looking for the best players, and we've already seen that Montillo has a lot of technical quality. He's a midfielder who can easily get close to the attackers, but we have to make it clear that La "U" has a system set up for him. In the Libertadores, he proved his potential, and we'll see what happens," revealed Rogério.
