Obina bets on a strong Flamengo to fight for titles

After re-establishing himself as Flamengo's starting attacker last year, Obina is expecting a joyful 2009. The fact that the team has the same core as last season is, for the striker, a plus for the red-and-blacks. The fans' favorite, however, noted that the players' determination on the field will be crucial for successful campaigns.

"Of course, it's very motivating to know that we can make Flamengo the club with the most state titles. Our rivals are also preparing, but Flamengo will go into the tournament with full force, aiming to win every competition we compete in," the striker promised.

Happy with the praise for having performed physically well after the holidays, Obina remembered that he preferred to take better care of himself to perform even better, whether or not he started the season as a starter.

"I arrived feeling more refined, and it's always nice to hear praise. I tried to take care of myself and will continue to seek my place. I respect my teammates, but I want to continue being a starter and I need to be in good shape in case Cuca decides to play me," he commented.

Regarding a possible proposal from a Qatari club, Obina said that the time is right to think only about Flamengo.

"I heard about the interest, but I don't even know if it's an official offer or not. I know I need to think about my family and finances, but I have one more year on my contract and I want to play for Flamengo this season."
