Obina returns thirsty for goals
Flamengo's top scorer of the decade wants to repeat his success in 2010
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo's top scorer of the decade is back at Gávea. His humble demeanor, unmistakable smile, and clear joy at being a Flamengo fan marked Obina's return on Tuesday morning. The player gave a press conference immediately after his first training session, reaffirming his desire to fulfill his contract with the club and guaranteeing that he will do his best to maintain his position as Flamengo's top scorer of the 2000s.
\Manuel de Brito Filho turns 27 on the 31st and has already scored 47 goals during his time at Flamengo, which began in 2005. He scored seven that year, 16 in 2006, nine in 2007, and 15 in 2008. Among them, some were remarkable. Like the one in the 1-0 victory over Paraná, which saved the club from relegation in the 2005 Brazilian Championship, the first goal in the 2006 Copa do Brasil final against Vasco, the one in the 2007 Taça Guanabara semifinal, again against the team from São Januário, and he also left his mark in the 2008 State Championship finals.
\Check out the main excerpts from Obina's interview:
\Return to Flamengo - I arrived knowing I had a contract, and I want to fulfill it. I was on loan at Palmeiras, but I'm returning feeling normal, relaxed, and ready to play my best here at Flamengo. As soon as I left Palmeiras, I spoke with Marcos Braz and made it clear that I wanted to fulfill my contract. Regardless of what happened, I said I wanted to stay here. I was happy with the opportunity he gave me, and I'm very happy to be back. Now it's a new life. I plan on helping Flamengo by scoring as many goals as I can.
\Adriano - I'm here to fight for my place, regardless of who else comes in. I'm here to fight for it. Flamengo has a great player in Adriano, and playing alongside him will be incredibly rewarding for me. I'll fight for it and find my place again. We can play together, especially since Love and Souza also have that trait, and I've played with them. That fits together on the field, striving to do my best.
\Cheerleaders – I hope to be welcomed the same way as always, with warmth, and I'll try to score goals to help. The fans know I'll give my all to help. Just like always. I'll always try to do my best to make this wonderful crowd happy.
\Hexa – I think in life things always happen the way we want them to. God knows what He's doing; He put me at Palmeiras at that moment, but I'm happy for those who stayed here, for those who work here... For the club, for the wonderful fans, who needed a title like this... And now I'm back and I want to win important titles too.
\2010 - The club is restructuring, we have new players arriving, a strong team with a lot of quality, and Flamengo has always been like this, fighting for major titles. This year will be no different.
\Group – It's great to see the friends I made here. We've played together before, some of them couldn't believe it when I left, and now being back is great. I'm also very happy for my teammates, who also struggled to get the team out of the relegation zone a few years ago and are now champions.
\Patricia Amorim – It was a very good first contact; she showed she had positive thoughts about helping the club. It was a good choice; I think the club needs people like her, people who want to help. The president is involved, and we are too, along with her, to ensure Flamengo remains a great club.
\From Rio - We'll fight for the title, as always. Few have achieved the fourth title. I've been to the last three Carioca Championships, and if possible, I want to be in the fourth. We have to start this championship focused, because the year is long, we have many tough competitions, and now it's time to focus. God willing, I'll play in the Carioca Championship for Flamengo. I'm immensely proud to wear this jersey.
