Flamengo is focused on achieving two more positive results in the final rounds of the Brazilian Championship. Against Cruzeiro and Santos, the red-and-blacks want to not only secure their place in Série A but also secure a spot in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana.
A goal set by coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo since his arrival at the club, competing in the international competition next year is a goal that remains firm and strong in the team's planning.
"Our goal is to secure a spot in the South American. We're sad because, with the squad we have, we couldn't be in this situation. But this is football, it happens. We have two more games and we hope to do our best," said young Diego Maurício.
The group's unity and harmony with the fans are factors that could be crucial at this crucial moment in the Brasileirão. Diego Maurício emphasizes that the match against Guarani was crucial in further motivating the Gávea team.
"Since the game against Atlético-MG, all anyone has been talking about is the game against Guarani. We locked ourselves in to do our best for this wonderful crowd. It's not for just any team to put almost 40 people at the Engenhão stadium. The game against Guarani was a matter of life or death for us. Our team had a lot of camaraderie because we had to have that little something extra from each of us to win the match. I was really captivated by the Flamengo fans," he added.
