After training held this Tuesday (31), Orlando Berrío was officially presented and gave a press conference in the Victorino Chermont Press Room, at Ninho do Urubu. Alongside president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, football director Rodrigo Caetano and general director Fred Luz, the Colombian striker answered several questions asked by the journalists present.
Starting the presentation, Bandeira de Mello said a few words about the new number 28. His resume, which includes a Copa Libertadores da América won with the Atlético Nacional team, was praised by the red-black leader.
"It's a great pleasure to be here introducing our new star, Orlando Berrío," Bandeira began. "He's a Colombian, a Libertadores champion, and I hope he wins the title twice this year. And you certainly know, as do everyone who follows South American football, that he will be a great help to us, will fit in perfectly, and will honor the Sacred Mantle," he concluded.
Next, it was Rodrigo Caetano's turn to speak. The director discussed some details of the negotiations with the Medellín club to sign Berrío for the 2017 season. Caetano thanked everyone involved in the process, emphasizing the striker's desire to wear the Sacred Mantle.
"His contract is for four years. The negotiation wasn't simple, and it never is with Flamengo, where we always seek the best position. After a long time, his position with Atlético Nacional was decisive, and we also have to thank them, represented by President De La Cuesta. The participation of Berrío and his agents was crucial in making the deal happen last week. His desire to be at Flamengo was crucial," Caetano emphasized.
Finally, Berrío gave his first press conference as a Flamengo player. Among the various topics covered, the striker spoke about his desire to compete in the Libertadores Cup representing Flamengo. The number 28 also commented on his characteristics and playing style, as well as tips from midfielder Gustavo Cuéllar, his teammate on the Colombian national team.
