With experience in the United States, China, and Europe, EXOS consultant Michael Minthorne joined the club's coaching staff this year. Among his many responsibilities, he's responsible for introducing new concepts in physical preparation, muscle strengthening, and injury prevention to the youth teams, creating a unique approach to applying training in soccer. The Functional Movement Systems (FMS) is also new this year, and the American coach is applying it, explaining the function and application of the assessment.
"The FMS is an assessment tool for athletes' functional movement: mobility, stability, and other basic movements. When an athlete performs a squat, for example, we can assess whether their hips are performing the correct movements, stabilizing themselves properly, and performing the optimal amount of movement. If we detect any problems with these assessments, we make the necessary adjustments to training programs, such as strength training, to prevent injuries," says the physical trainer, who also extols the benefits of the FMS in the medium and long term.
"In addition to all this, athletes have access to an individualized and specific physical training program that meets each individual's needs. This only increases the quality of their functional movements, which, in turn, improves their strength training, on-field performance, skills, and conditioning," he concluded.
