In an interview with Chilean media, Universidad de Chile coach Gerardo Pelusso harshly criticized Flamengo's defense and attack. The comments reached Brazil and the Flamengo squad, which promises to enter the field with even greater determination to reach the semifinals of the Copa Santander Libertadores.
That's what club president Patricia Amorim hopes for. Present at the airport as the red-and-black team boarded for Chile, the director understands that such words are part of the world of football, but they will be used as a motivating factor by the players.
"I believe that in football, the answers are given on the field. His (Pelusso's) statements are part of the football scene, but our players will transform them into motivation. I have no doubt," said Patricia Amorim.
And in addition to 'responding' to the La "U" coach, the president of Flamengo showed all her confidence in Rubro-negro.
"We've already spoken with the players and tried to convey our confidence. It is possible to achieve this result. If they won at Maracanã, we can win there too. We have the team for this, but no one here thinks it will be easy. We know the strength of the opposing team. They are not weak, but our fighting spirit will shine through. We are working through adversity, and Flamengo grows from it. It's a characteristic of the club. Flamengo thrives on grit, on will. The atmosphere is good, and the players will fight hard," said the president, asking for the fans' support.
"The fans need to be with us. They have to go out on the street wearing the club's jersey and hang the flag in the window. This positive vibe only does the team good, and the players gain confidence from it," he concluded.
