The rivalry between Flamengo and Corinthians goes far beyond the battle for the title of Brazil's most beloved team. In recent years, the two teams have been starring in important matches in major national and South American football competitions. Striker Diego Maurício, who wasn't even part of the main squad in these last two decisive clashes, hopes to start his series against the São Paulo team on the right foot on Wednesday.

"I wasn't even registered for the Libertadores. Of course, I dreamed of being promoted, but I wasn't expecting it. I was training with the youth team, I was called up to the national team... But I remember that run, which was very difficult and which, without a doubt, was a very important moment for Flamengo this season," he explained.

Flamengo is 13th with 38 points, four ahead of Vitória, the first team in the relegation zone, and in the qualifying zone for the next edition of the Copa Sudamericana. Corinthians is third with 53. The match will be at the Engenhão stadium at 22 p.m. (Brasília time).
