Paquetá emphasizes the importance of the squad: "There is no reserve team"
Midfielder speaks to journalists before trip to Macaé
By Matheus Oliveira - inThis Friday, midfielder Lucas Paquetá was chosen to give a press conference at Ninho do Urubu. The conversation with journalists took place in the Victorino Chermont Press Room, following the session that concluded the preparations for the match against Macaé. Only a few of the players who played in the 3-0 victory against Boavista will travel with the delegation.
Expecting a changed team compared to the last match, the number 11 rejected the idea of a starting lineup and reserves at the club. "There's no reserve team. I know there are players who aren't playing much, but it's Flamengo who wins or loses. It's a new opportunity for those who are playing less to show Paulo that they can come in and help. Regardless of who's on the field, they'll try to help and give their best," he stated.
The group of players who have played for the least time this season will have a new chance to make an impact in this Saturday's match (10). Given the healthy competition for positions in a strong squad like the red-black, Paquetá sees this alternation in the lineup as beneficial, putting the best for the Mais Querido first.
"Regardless of who takes the field, they'll be representing Flamengo. We need to have that mindset; that's what matters. It's another opportunity for those who haven't been playing as much. And the guys who are here resting will be training and preparing for Wednesday's game," he commented.
Against Boavista, two beautiful free kicks by Diego and Paquetá contributed to three more points in this Rio Cup. Both midfielders are excellent free kick takers, and they alternate their attempts. According to the midfielder, technical aspects prevail when making their selections.
"Paulo gives us the freedom to make decisions on the field. Diego and I, just like in training, talk a lot to see how the wall is defined, how the ball is positioned, whether it's close or far. On the field, we decide who's best to hit, and thank God we're having success," he explained.

Athletes' moment
I believe the board's work is always well done for a great season. There are times when one will end up performing better than the other, and that's why we have a squad. When one isn't performing well, the other will be there to help. That's what I've been trying to do, and I'm receiving support from all the players, the staff, and the board. Everyone is trying to do their best to help Flamengo.Rueda's Influence
Rueda was a guy who changed my life at Flamengo. He gave me the opportunity I was working for, and I was happy to take advantage of it. I earned the coach's trust. We still exchange messages; he's very supportive. I'm also rooting for him, regardless of his absence.
Acting with Julio Cesar
It's gratifying for me to have this opportunity to play alongside Julio Cesar, who is a role model, an idol for the nation. We see him embody Flamengo. It's a wonderful energy. He's an exemplary, humble guy who inspires a lot of confidence. We're grateful to have him here with us. As he said in his speech, he asked to be here, but we're the ones who are grateful.
Humility on the journey
Personally, I have a very strong family base. I talk to my parents a lot. We always expect that feedback. It's something we work on over time. We strive for certain achievements every day, and when they happen, we keep our heads in the right place, our feet on the ground, and keep working, because it's just the beginning of a long journey.
Professional growth
We strive to do everything the professionals in the field ask of us. We strive to evolve physically, mentally, and nutritionally. This helps us evolve as athletes, so that when we finally show up and achieve everything we want, we know it's the result of hard work.
Brazil National Team
I realized a dream: wearing the Flamengo jersey. And every player dreams of wearing the national team jersey. I'm working slowly, on my own, and if it ever happens, I'll be incredibly grateful.
Fans' demands
I know that when we're not performing well on the field, it's normal for the fans to want the best from each of us. I welcome it in the best way possible because it motivates me. I'm very self-critical; I know when I'm making mistakes and when things aren't going well. I'm always striving to improve.
Tite's praise for Lincoln
We're happy. Lincoln is a player with excellent technical ability, and we've praised him a lot in training. When this topic came up, we congratulated him, because that's recognition. Nothing better for a professional than that. Now it's time to keep doing what he's been doing, because we'll need him eventually, and he'll be ready.
