For Joel, confrontation is a game of chess
The coach has not yet confirmed the starting team.
By Flamengo Archive - inDuring the week of training in Teresópolis, at Granja Comary, coach Joel Santana tested some Flamengo formations for the match on Sunday (25/11), against Atlético-PR, at Maracanã.
Léo Medeiros, Roger, and Maxi were among the starters. The red-and-black manager explains that the team's numerous tests are due to doubts within Atlético-PR's squad.
"The team is practically ready. I'm just not going to reveal who will take Toró's place. I'll decide at the time of the match, because it depends on the opponent's lineup, which hasn't been confirmed yet."
The coach recalled that the different formations could make the job of the opposing coach, Ney Franco, difficult.
"I practiced some variations with the team so they're prepared for any game situation. The different formations are also a strategy to confuse the opposing coach."
Even without revealing the team, Joel spoke about what he expects from the team in the match that could decide a place in the 2008 Libertadores.
"I want a lot of discipline on the field. The team has to play with a lot of passion, because our fans are going to fill the Maracanã stadium. The fans made a huge sacrifice to get a ticket, and we have to repay them with a great performance on the field."
