Preparations for the clash against Chapecoense in the Conmebol South American Championship came to an end this Tuesday (19), at Ninho do Urubu. At the end of the activities on the field, full-back Pará appeared at the Victorino Chermont Press Room, where he gave a press conference.

During the conversation with reporters, the decisive match against the Santa Catarina team was the main topic discussed. After a goalless draw at Arena Condá, the spot will be decided this Wednesday (20), at Ilha do Urubu. Warning about the dangers that the opponent can pose even away from home, Pará recalled the victory obtained by the same team in the last round of the Brazilian Championship, against Grêmio.

"It's going to be a tough game. We all know that playing against Chapecoense is tough. We have a clear example now, when Chapecoense went to Porto Alegre and beat Grêmio, who are second in the standings. We have to be very careful not to be surprised tomorrow," commented the full-back, speaking about his expectations for the game. "I hope we have a happy night with our fans so we can advance to the next round," he noted.

The speed of the opposing attack is another characteristic that could cause problems for the Mais Querido during the match, according to Pará. Another strong aspect of Chapecoense's style of play is set pieces, which create problems for several opponents.

"They have a skilled team, with good aerial ability and quick players on the wings. When we play against lesser teams, they come out very defensively, so we'll need to be a little more patient, move the ball from side to side and look for space. We also can't afford to make mistakes at the back, as Chapecoense has quick players who can decide the match at any moment," he added.

Originally a right-back, the number 21 has been receiving opportunities on the opposite side of the field and has lived up to Colombian coach Reinaldo Rueda's expectations. However, Pará doesn't see this as a problem.

"For me, not much changes. I'm an athlete who wants to play, no matter where. Everyone knows my original position is right-back, but I want to be in the mix and be remembered. If the Rueda manager needs me in other roles, I'll try to do it. I'm here to help Flamengo win victories and, consequently, titles," he said.

During the press conference, the athlete emphasized the strength of the squad when discussing the changes Rueda has made since taking over the red-and-black team. Pará also praised the coach and spoke about his adjustment period at the helm of the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved).

I see it as natural. We have a strong, large squad, and everyone is capable of playing. Whoever Coach Rueda puts on the field will give their best. Everyone wants to play, to show their worth, so we need to be ready and in a good frame of mind to make the most of our opportunities.

Playing there against Chapecoense was always going to be tough. We didn't have a particularly inspired night, we couldn't do what we're used to, but we didn't lose the game. We brought the final to our home, and with the support of our fans, I hope we play well tomorrow. I hope the island is packed so we can celebrate our spot in the next round.

It's been great. He's always talking to us so we can better understand what he's asking us to do on the field. He's a coach who needs no introduction, who has achieved everything he's been through. We only have something to gain from that.
