For Rogério, Corinthians' victory was fair

Coach believes Flamengo didn't perform to its full potential in Sunday's match

Coach Rogério Lourenço was not satisfied with his team's performance on Sunday afternoon (08.08), at Pacaembu. Flamengo played football below what the coach expected and ended up losing in São Paulo by 1-0, a result that caused the red-blacks to drop to tenth place in the Brasileirão table.

Rogério believes the team could have achieved a better result if they had used more speed to capitalize on the possession they had. According to the coach, the red-and-black team lacked objectivity, and therefore, Corinthians deserved the victory.

"We didn't have the best afternoon, and the team performed below expectations. In the first half, the system was well-organized, but we couldn't maintain speed when we had the ball at our feet. Corinthians' victory was deserved; they performed well," he said.

Even so, the coach remains calm. He noted that he expected a tough match this Sunday and praised Flamengo's opponent.

"It's obvious that the concern of picking up points always exists, whenever you're playing in Rio or away from home. We've had two away wins (over Atlético-GO and Palmeiras), but today (Sunday) we knew it would be a tough game. It's no surprise that Corinthians is up there with Fluminense," he added.
