The year 2003 was special for Maldonado and Deivid. On the field, they won everything with Cruzeiro: the State Championship, the Copa do Brasil, and the Brazilian Championship. Off the field, they forged a special bond of friendship that remains to this day. Before arriving at Flamengo, they had already played together for Santos and Fenerbahçe, winning titles with both. And now, in 2011, the time has come to win with Flamengo.
That's how roommates, teammates, and longtime friends think. The Chilean midfielder emphasizes that this type of relationship only benefits them when they're on the field. Maldonado also recalls that they've shared training camps at other clubs and even lived in the same hotel in Minas Gerais.
"Our relationship is very good. We're friends. Whenever someone from his family is having a celebration, I go, and vice-versa. We've known each other since Cruzeiro. We lived in the same hotel, went out to eat together, so we formed a great friendship. We've met again here at Flamengo, and sharing a room with him is great. We already know each other, we know what the other likes, so it's very easy," said the player, who only hopes to have the same success wearing the Flamengo jersey.
"We hope to do everything good that we've done over the years here at Flamengo. We have to work all the time to achieve success. I hope that this year we can win titles. We always talk about the group, which is now getting stronger with new players arriving, so I believe in a good year," he emphasized.
Forward Deivid agrees. He also recalls that, in Türkiye, the two were always together and emphasizes the importance of this "long-standing partnership".
"I was Maldonado's roommate at Fenerbahçe, but I've known him for a long time. It's a long-standing partnership. We're very good friends, we've achieved a lot together, and now we're forming this duo again at Flamengo. I hope we'll be as successful as we were at other clubs," he concluded.
