At the end of training this Friday morning (January 14.01th), Flamengo and the city of Londrina announced an important partnership: the food collected from ticket sales for the match between Flamengo and América-MG, on Sunday (January 16.01th), at Estádio do Café, will be directed to the victims of the tragedy caused by the rains that hit the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro in recent days.

The mayor of Londrina, Barbosa Neto, began the press conference by explaining the initiative and thanking Flamengo for their stay in the city and for their act of solidarity.
"The city hall of Londrina and Flamengo will be holding a fundraising event to help the victims of the rain. All food collected from ticket sales for the Flamengo vs. América-MG game will be sent to the victims. I thank the president, the committee, and the players for being here and for this initiative. Fans can bring as much food as possible, as well as cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, clothing... Any donation is important at this time," he said.
Flamengo's president, Patricia Amorim, emphasized the importance of showing solidarity during this very difficult time that Rio is going through.
"On behalf of Flamengo, I ask that you contribute with food, personal hygiene items, and anything else you can help with. Not only here in Londrina, but also in Rio. The club is a collection point for donations. Flamengo stands in solidarity with the people of the area and we want to contribute, to help, in the best way possible. We ask the residents here to participate in the campaign, because the partnership extends beyond the borders of Rio de Janeiro as well," he noted.
Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, one of the most sought-after figures in Londrina, has asked the city's citizens, whether Flamengo fans or not, to go to the stadium and be part of this initiative.
"We have no way of quantifying the estimate, but we call on Flamengo fans, or anyone else in the region, who saw what happened in Rio, to show their compassion, come and help. Not only at the game, but also in other ways. Any kind of help will be very welcome. It was a tragedy unlike anything ever seen in Rio de Janeiro. The players will also contribute amongst themselves, and I will also donate a ton of food. Everyone is important at this moment," Luxa urged.
Leonardo Moura, as captain and leader of the group of players, explained that they will also participate in the project, taking charge of covering the cost of transporting the food to Rio.
"We were deeply saddened by what happened. It's very sad. We're going to help by paying for the transportation of the food to Rio. I hope many people can do their part," he added.
Flamengo and América face off on Sunday (January 16.01th) at 17 PM at Estádio do Café. The match will be broadcast live on both free-to-air and pay TV.
