Flamengo has a new coach for the 2022 season. 51-year-old Portuguese Paulo Sousa has signed a two-year contract with the club. The coach was previously in charge of the Polish national team and left to coach the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved). Paulo will be in charge of the Campeonato Carioca, Supercopa do Brasil, Libertadores, Brasileirão, and Copa do Brasil.

Paulo Sousa was a great Portuguese player and was part of the national team that won the Under-20 World Cup in 1989. After retiring, he began his career as coach of the Portugal Under-16 team between 2005 and 2008. His first club experience was at Queens Park Rangers, in England, in 2008. The coach also worked for Swansea (2009) and Leicester (2010) in English football.

It is also worth highlighting Paulo's time at Maccabi Tel Aviv - Israel (2013), Basel - Switzerland (2014), Fiorentina - Italy (2015) and Bordeaux - France (2019).

In addition to Paulo Sousa, six other names will form the new red-black technical committee, they are: Manuel Cordeiro (assistant coach), Victor Sanchez (assistant coach), Paulo Grilo (goalkeeper coach), António Gomez (physical trainer), Lluis Sala (physical trainer) and Cosimo Cappagli (analyst).
