For the first time in blue and yellow
Flamengo's founding colors have never been used, but will be on the field this Saturday

Founded in 1895, Flamengo emerged as an option for six young rowers to 'fight' against the clubs already formed at the time. More precisely, on the night of November 17th of that year, at Nestor de Barros' mansion, number 22 on Praia do Flamengo, it was decided that the 'group's' anniversary would be brought forward two days (November 15th) and that the uniform colors would be blue and gold, in view.
The uniform was never used by the club's soccer team, as a year later, red and black were adopted as the official colors. The choice was made by Flamengo's then-secretary, Nestor de Barros, who explained that blue and yellow faded too quickly. This meant ordering new uniforms, which, at the time, were imported from England.
But the mystique of blue and yellow returned in 2010. Reviving the club's history, Olympikus put together the third uniform project and had the support of everyone at Flamengo. In an unprecedented move, the deliberative council approved the shirt, which will be on the field early this Saturday evening (15.05), at 18:30 pm, against Vitória, at Barradão, in Bahia.
It will be the first time that Flamengo will play an official match in the colors of its foundation and the expectation is that the warrior spirit of those six young rowers will be rescued.
Always a pioneer
Flamengo's pioneering uniform design dates back to the 30s, specifically in 38, when it introduced a second white jersey for its soccer team, to improve visibility during night games and against other Flamengo teams. The idea was developed by coach Dori Krueschner.
