Not even the cold and rain kept away the more than 60 fans who turned out to cheer on Flamengo this holiday Wednesday at Maracanã Stadium. Despite the 2-1 loss to Corinthians, the nation celebrated in the stands, celebrating with the team their recent victories: their fourth Copa do Brasil title, against the same opponent as tonight's match, and their third Libertadores title.

The game

Flamengo started the match looking for spaces in Corinthians' defense and had their first opportunity to open the scoring through Marinho three minutes into the first half, following a one-two with Victor Hugo, but Fábio Santos arrived to tackle. The following minutes saw an offensive response from the opponent, who pressed the Corinthians' ball out and created several threats. In the 11th minute, a free kick by Vidal on the left edge of the penalty area forced goalkeeper Cássio to work with a venomous header from defender Pablo.

The match was concentrated in the midfield until the São Paulo team produced three sharp plays in a row – with great saves from Hugo on all of them. In the 18th minute, Róger Guedes found himself one-on-one with Hugo, who made the save without a rebound, just as the linesman was already signaling offside; then, in the 20th minute, it was Yuri Alberto's turn to dribble past Pablo and Matheuzinho, cut to the left, and unleash a low shot, drawing another save from the red-and-black goalkeeper; finally, in the 23rd minute, Giuliano hit the post; on the rebound, Róger Guedes was again stopped by Hugo. The red-and-black's response was not long in coming: in the 24th minute, in a lightning counterattack, Ayrton Lucas received the ball from Vidal and fired a powerful shot into the corner, but Cássio was able to save. Cebolinha was also a candidate to be responsible for opening the scoring, in the 36th minute, but his risky shot from outside the area went over the crossbar.

Corinthians opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, with midfielder Du Queiroz sending a low ball into Hugo's right corner. Nothing could stop the chanting of the red-and-black fans, who continued to celebrate in the stands, celebrating their recent four-time Copa do Brasil title and three-time Copa Libertadores title. 

Flamengo needed only three minutes of the second half to level the score at Mário Filho Stadium. Matheus França, the Nest Boy, was the mastermind—and what a mastermind! After receiving the ball from Cebolinha, the youngster had the coolness of a grown man to chip it past Cássio in a beautiful move: 1-1. Seven minutes in, it was Cebolinha who nearly scored a stunning goal at the Temple of Football: after controlling the ball with a backheel and skillfully dribbling past his defender, he unleashed a powerful shot, but the shot went over.

In the 29th minute, when the rain was falling heavily at Maracanã, Corinthians took the lead again, with Yuri Alberto, who gave the final score to the match.

In the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo will play against Coritiba and Juventude, away from home, on November 6th and 9th, and then close the Brasileirão against Avaí, at Maracanã, on the 13th.
