After a long unbeaten run, the Mais Querido team was defeated by Universidad Católica in a match valid for the second round of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Bridgestone group stage. At the San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium, Santiago Silva scored the winning goal for the home team.
During the first half, the red-and-black team created numerous chances to open the scoring. Making a significant contribution to the attack, Guerrero had the two best chances of the first half, first from a free kick and then from a rocket from the edge of the box, both of which hit the post.
In the second half of the match, Flamengo managed to create a few more chances, but to no avail. Then, in the 29th minute, number 9 Santiago Silva capitalized on a free kick in the box to head down, leaving Alex Muralha with no chance. Berrío would be sent off in the 38th minute after a confusing play in the box with Parot.
The result leaves Mais Querido in third place in Group 4 with three points. The Chileans share the lead with Atlético-PR, both with four points. In last place, San Lorenzo remains without a point in the competition.
Starting this Saturday (19), attention turns once again to the Campeonato Carioca. In the second round of the Taça Rio, Flamengo will face the Resende team, at the Raulino de Oliveira stadium, in Volta Redonda. The match will start at 18:30 pm.
