Everyone knows that Flamengo fans can make all the difference in a game. Especially the players. And they sing out in one voice what they want to see this Saturday (September 11.09th) against Vitória at Raulino de Oliveira Stadium in Volta Redonda: stands full of red-and-black fans cheering on the team.
Striker Deivid has only just arrived at the club, but he's known what it means to be a Flamengo fan since he was a kid. And the team's current difficult times aren't for the number 99 to lament, but rather for him and the entire squad to lift their heads and seek three points. Preferably in the arms of the nation.
"Everyone knows the difficult times we're going through. We've gone many games without a win, with a goal drought, and no one likes that. We have to show desire and get the fans behind us. That way, we'll be stronger and get results, with goals coming. The fans need to understand that we're striving for the best and encourage us. That way, the team will have more peace of mind to get results," said Deivid, revealing that he's not happy with his performance.
"I want and need to play better, the way I did when I left Brazil. But I've been playing abroad for five years. It's difficult to get back into the rhythm of Brazilian football, but I hope to show improvement in this game. And I hope to score goals, of course," he said.
A Gávea native, goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba agrees with his new teammate and emphasizes that unity will be crucial for Flamengo to truly thrive in the Brasileirão. But unity among players and fans is also crucial.
"Now is the time for things to be decided. This is the moment. It's time for work and dedication. The group has to come together, think positively, and think about winning. Each person, individually, has to give 100%, because then the collective will excel. We have a good squad, experienced players, and young players with a lot of desire, and when all this comes together, we'll get good results," explained Lomba.
Away from Maracanã, the red-and-black squad isn't worried about being away from Maracanã. After all, Flamengo has already achieved good results at Raulino de Oliveira Stadium and has always been warmly welcomed.
"Of course, any Flamengo player always prefers to play at Maracanã. It's our home, where we feel comfortable. We were upset about the stadium's closure, but we're working to adapt as quickly as possible to Raulino de Oliveira. We played well at the stadium during the Campeonato Carioca and we hope to maintain that in the Brasileirão," concluded defender David.
