Petkovic's good mood during the press conference after training this Thursday (11/11) said it all. Having recovered from a thigh muscle injury, the midfielder is back with the Flamengo team and will start the match against Atlético Mineiro on Saturday (13/11) in Sete Lagoas. Recognized by both Flamengo and Minas Gerais fans, he expects a great match and says he's happy with his return.
Pet doesn't hide the fact that he misses stepping onto the field wearing the Sacred Mantle, after all, he couldn't even be included in the last few rounds due to his injury.
"I miss playing. I was out for two games because of a muscle problem, but I'm recovered, feeling good, and I'll be back for an important game. I hope to play well and that we can return to Rio happy," said Pet, who also analyzed the importance of the duel, in relation to last year's match, where he scored a goal and Flamengo won 3-1 on the way to the sixth title.
"We'll be playing on a field I've never played on before. The importance of the match is even similar to last year's. I even think this year's is more important, because besides being a classic in Brazilian football, it involves a bad situation for the teams in the competition," he noted.
Pet is aware of the fierce rivalry between Galo and Flamengo, is grateful for the support he received from the Minas Gerais fans while he played there, and predicts a tough matchup next weekend.
"The rivalry exists, but I don't believe in a warlike atmosphere. I had good experiences with the Galo fans when I played there and was always very respected. Whatever result happens, it won't complicate or completely end the teams' situations in the championship. There's still a lot to come," he added.
