Flamengo is alive and well in the Brazilian Championship. That's the view of midfielder Petkovic, one of the leaders of the red-and-black squad. Confident in the strength of the squad and the motivation that the arrival of a new coach can generate, the Serbian believes the team will soon improve and return to fighting for the top spots in the table.
"We have the quality; most of the squad is from last year's championship. The players we signed have potential. There's something missing, and sometimes, due to the circumstances, what we've been through in recent months, the ball just doesn't go in and the results aren't what we expected. We hope Silas finds what's missing and that we can see improvements soon, that he can start putting Flamengo where it needs to be, given the club's characteristics and the squad's ability," he said.
The Serbian believes the change in coaching leadership could further motivate the team. According to him, despite the short time they've been working together, they expect a positive result against Cruzeiro.
"When there's a change in coaching, there's usually a quick, visible change. I hope it happens at Flamengo and that we can present it right away in Silas' first game. We'll have practically one day of work, little organization, little change, but we hope for a positive result against a very tough team, which is Cruzeiro," said the number 10, who took the opportunity to give his first impressions of Silas.
"The conversation was quick, normal, typical of introducing a new coach. Silas is a coach similar to Rogério (Lourenço), who played football, he's young (45 years old). Like any coach, the group welcomed him very well. Silas has already played for big clubs, he's already shown his competence as a coach, as he did as a player. I hope he helps us so we can find the right path," he concluded.
