The result wasn't all bad; after all, Flamengo, if Goiás doesn't win this year's Copa Sudamericana, secures a spot in the international competition next season. However, the Flamengo players believe it could have been better, especially if the heavy rain hadn't fallen in the second half of the game.
The experienced Serbian midfielder Petkovic, who came on during the second half, was unhappy with the bad weather. According to him, not only the teams, but also the nearly ten thousand fans who paid for tickets to watch the match, were harmed by the heavy rain that fell in Santos.
"The rain really hampered the game. It was an extremely important match, we wanted the three points to secure our place, but the rain ruined the game. We couldn't show the beautiful, technical football that Santos has and that we also want to show. Unfortunately, we didn't score the goal to reward all the fans," he said.
Pet also recalls that the Flamengo team didn't have an easy season. According to him, it was worth going through all of that to learn and draw lessons for next year.
"Flamengo had a complicated year, after last year's wonderful year. We overcame many things that happened, and the important thing is to learn from this year and prepare for the next one," he concluded.
