Pet fondly remembers the match against Goiás
The 3-2 defeat at Serra Dourada saw a great performance from the Serbian, who later established himself as a starter.
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inIt's safe to say that Flamengo's opponent this Tuesday (28/09) brings back fond memories for the red-black team. It's true that the Gávea team failed to beat Goiás last year (drawing 0-0 at home and losing 3-2 at Serra Dourada) and also ended up losing 2-1 to Flamengo in the first round of this year's match at Maracanã.
However, it was in the 3-2 defeat in 2009 that Serbian Petkovic once again became a key player for Flamengo. Coming on as a substitute without many chances, after a strong performance that even included a goal (his first since returning to Flamengo), he proved he still had the stamina to lead the team in its quest for the sixth title.
"That was a special game for me, for sure, because I was able to come on and score that goal. It was just a shame we didn't get the win," Pet recalled.
A sixth title that almost didn't come due to a 0-0 draw with the same Goiás at Maracanã, in the penultimate round of the competition. But it came closer when the Esmeraldino defeated São Paulo, who were battling with Flamengo for the title, in the penultimate round, when the team of then coach Andrade defeated Corinthians and took the lead.
"Now it's a completely different situation. We're in a difficult situation, needing to win, and it won't be easy once again. It's a six-point game, and we need a good performance, a win, to show our strength again," the Serb added.
