Hero of the 2001 Rio de Janeiro state championship, Serbian Petkovic was introduced this morning at the Rogério Steinberg Auditorium as Flamengo's newest signing for the 2009 season. The player was warmly celebrated by the Flamengo fans and received flowers from a fan. The video of the 2001 state title win was shown on a large screen, drawing applause from everyone present.

At 36, the midfielder signed a contract until mid-2010 and said he was returning home after seven years.

"Every time I see it, I get goosebumps. I have a history at the Club, and the fans really like me. I have to live in the present, and the present is that I'm very happy. I'm back at my new, old Club. Here I feel at home. It's an immense emotion to wear this jersey again. It gave me the opportunity to experience the best moments of my career."

Petkovic said his relationship with the red-and-black fans is excellent. The player is looking forward to the reunion at Maracanã.

"Flamengo's fans have always treated me with great affection. They're definitely the ones I identify with the most. Yesterday I went to Maracanã and saw the wonderful celebration the Flamengo fans threw. I hope they continue to help the team in this Brazilian Championship, because we really need them."

Petkovic assured that his desire to play for Flamengo again weighed heavily in his decision to return to the Club.

"I was an idol, so the fans expect a lot from me. Even at 36, I know I can be very useful to the team. The desire to play is what matters. I've always been very professional and dedicated. I'm sure I'll continue to be a great help."
