During Flamengo's surge last year, Petkovic emerged as one of the team's standout performers, scoring decisive goals. This Wednesday (September 22.09), the Serbian midfielder was once again instrumental in helping Flamengo against Grêmio in a 2-2 draw. After receiving a beautiful pass from Léo Moura, he infiltrated the Grêmio defense, luckily controlled the ball, outwitted goalkeeper Vitor, and scored, sealing the victory in the final scoreline.
Pleased with the goal and aware that Flamengo could have achieved a better result, Pet doesn't take lightly the point he gained at the Olímpico.
"When you're losing a game, especially away from home, like we did, a draw feels like a victory. But Flamengo could have won. In the end, this point was good for us," analyzed the midfielder.
Regarding the goal he scored at the Olímpico on Wednesday night, Petkovic confessed that he was lucky, but emphasized that he had already predicted what the Grêmio goalkeeper would do.
"The field was wet. I knew he was going to go that way, closing him down as much as possible, and I had already thought about playing it further forward. I got lucky and fooled the goalkeeper, leaving me with an open goal," concluded Petkovic.
Flamengo returns to Rio de Janeiro this Thursday (23.09) and will train at 15 pm in Gávea. On Saturday (25.09), the current Brazilian champion will host Palmeiras at Engenhão at 18:30 pm.
