Why Clubs Support Provisional Measure 984 and the Creation of the Law on the Democratization of Football Broadcasts
By Flamengo Communication - inWhy Clubs Support Provisional Measure 984 and the Creation of the Law on the Democratization of Football Broadcasts
1. Because fans directly benefit. The provisional measure puts an end to "blackouts," games without any broadcasts, which occurred when one channel had the rights to one team and another had the rights to the other. The previous situation prevented, for example, more than half of the Brazilian Championship matches from being shown on cable TV. With more matches being shown, we will have a more democratic, accessible, and affordable football experience.
2. Because it empowers clubs to negotiate their rights and encourages unity among teams. This format is prevalent in the world's major football markets. Brazil is ready for this liberating step, which will certainly be the starting point for further improvements. With the MP, the more united clubs are, the more they will gain.
3. Because competition will increase. The current model in Brazil led to the concentration of football in the hands of a few investors. Consequently, it failed to reach its full potential and also created distortions in its distribution model. The Provisional Measure allows new investors to enter the market without alienating existing ones, increasing competition. And this is good for the clubs and even better for the fans.
4. Because we should follow the example of those who did it and it worked. The previous legislation was over 50 years old and did not reflect a modern way of negotiating sports rights. Increased investment generates increased revenue for clubs, enabling them to keep our stars in the country for longer, in addition to investing in international stars.
IN SHORT
Fans benefit from the end of match blackouts, more stars on the field, and a better spectacle in Brazil. Clubs benefit from increased freedom and revenue. And the country benefits from more financially solid clubs, increased job creation, and increased taxes paid to the government.
For all these reasons, we SUPPORT MP 984/2020 and ask for its immediate CONVERSION into Law!
