Victory eluded them, Flamengo drew at home (2-2), but the team's resilience was the highlight of Saturday (September 11.09th) in Volta Redonda. This is the opinion of coach Silas, who had already emphasized the improved performances in the Rubro-negro's recent matches.
Clearly disappointed at not having achieved his first victory in charge of the team, Silas highlighted the players' commitment on the field and the difficulty presented by Vitória.
"I know there's still a lot of work to be done. But since we don't have time, we'll try to get it right through conversation and affection with the players. Today (Saturday), the team went on the attack right from the start. We dominated the game and never stopped trying for the win. In the second half, we went even harder and, if I hadn't taken off a defender, we might not have conceded that first goal from a set piece. But I prefer to highlight the positives. The ball went in and I really liked Kleberson's performance, and Galhardo came on very well too," the coach explained.
When questioned again about the lack of goals from Flamengo's attack, Silas defended his players and reiterated what really matters: winning.
"The important thing is for Flamengo to win. It doesn't matter who scores the goals. If it's the attack, great, but it could be any other player from any position. It's worth highlighting that there was a lot of commitment, a lot of love for the shirt. This will never be lacking in this group, which has a lot of quality," he stated, recalling that they were down to ten men in the final minutes.
"All of this happened with Flamengo playing with one less player for the last 15 minutes. Unfortunately, Juan got injured when we had already made all three substitutions. But he showed grit and returned to the field to help his teammates. It could have been better," he concluded, praising the opponent.
"Vitória is a good team that played very well in an organized way. They were finalists in the Copa do Brasil and always play well away from home."
