Pre-season is paying off for Flamengo

Luxa celebrates his physical progress and explains that his preparation will continue during the Campeonato Carioca

Flamengo has been in Londrina for almost a week. And the work, according to coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, is paying off. The Flamengo coach believes the team is improving for the start of the season. Luxa also explained, as fitness coach Antônio Melo had already anticipated, that the Flamengo's preseason will continue throughout the first weeks of the Campeonato Carioca.

The manager believes it is better to go into some matches during the initial part of the State Championship with a pre-season rhythm.

"We have to continue preparing for the competition. The only way is to prepare for the games, advance two or three weeks of preseason. We have to get the logistics at Ninho do Urubu working, work full-time on game days, and advance the structure. The tendency is to arrive at the championship final in good shape, prepared to play and win. That's the expectation," he said.

The coach remembers that the preparation is more physical than technical and tactical, precisely so that the players can build up a little more resistance for the difficult season that is beginning.

"We've made progress on this with Melo. We're doing 60% physical training and 40% direct ball work. We're alternating, with progress focused on soccer practice," he added.

Flamengo players return to training on Monday afternoon (10.01), at the SM Sports CT, in Londrina.
