In 30 games played this year, Flamengo has already conceded 40 goals. These numbers were a concern for the red-and-blacks before the World Cup break, and the Gávea team's coaching staff knows they will have to work on their defense during the offseason. With time to train and reinforcements to the squad, the expectation is that the team will find its feet, as it did last year.

If in 2009, Maldonado and Álvaro were hired, this year, Jean has already arrived and the expectation is that the team will evolve with the activities led by Rogério Lourenço in the coming days.

"Another quality defender (Jean) has arrived. I already know him, and we've had the opportunity to play together. The first thing is to work hard and focus on not conceding goals. Then, we'll focus on scoring, and that will certainly happen. We've changed our defense in many games and struggled because of it. This has left us lacking consistency. When the Brazilian Championship returns, I hope we can fix this," said Leonardo Moura.

The right-back also hopes that his defensive teammates, such as David and Maldonado, will renew their contracts with Flamengo.

"Sometimes, anxiety really hinders the defense. Sometimes, we want to get ahead no matter what, and we hinder the entire sector. We'll fix this for the rest of the season. I hope Maldonado and David stay with us. With them, it will be easier to continue the work," he added.

After training during the week at Gávea, Flamengo has a day off this Sunday and returns to work on Monday morning at Ninho do Urubu.
