It's true that the Brazilian Championship is far from over, and the competition is still in its first round. But the tenth-place finish in the standings isn't pleasing the members of the current champions. Flamengo's players don't want to be left in the middle of the table and are only focused on returning to the top four as quickly as possible.
The winning mindset of someone accustomed to fighting for titles – in this decade, Flamengo only failed to lift a trophy in three years (2002, 2003 and 2005), and for the last five years they haven't won a season – is one of the team's weapons, which is highly motivated to make a comeback in the Brasileirão.
"Flamengo is ready. We have a strong group, with potential and even better with the arrival of players like Deivid and Diogo. I'm sure the team will gel and we'll fight at the top of the table," said goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba, who reminds us that it's time for a decisive match in the championship.
"Now it's time to decide who will fight for what in the championship. We're going to play a lot of games in a short space of time, and it's time to get the wins to get going in the fight for the top spots. This is the time when players are most prone to injuries and suspensions, and whoever has the squad to handle all of that will do better," he said.
Therefore, Lomba says the team can no longer afford to waste points, especially when playing at the Maracanã, like this Thursday (August 26.08) against Atlético-MG. Despite preaching respect for the opponent, the number 29 guarantees that Flamengo will do everything in its power to win.
"It's a crucial stage of the championship. At home, we have an obligation to get the three points. We're in tenth place and want to go much further, so we're counting on the fans and asking for their support to get us going in the table," he concluded.
