Flamengo's physical trainer is hired by Bayer Leverkusen
Impressed by the work of the red-black team, the German team 'took' Daniel Jouvin to its staff

Flamengo's fitness coach Daniel Jouvin Abrahan is leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. Obviously, the entire Flamengo professional football staff is saddened by the departure of this excellent professional, but, in return, they're happy for the new opportunity that has arisen in the life of "Giga," as he's affectionately known within the club. Mainly because of the reason he was hired by the Germans: the high level and prestige of his work at Flamengo.
Leverkusen became interested in Flamengo's work when homegrown player Renato Augusto, currently with the German club, came to recover from an injury with the red-and-black team. This happened more than once in 2010, and the athlete's return to Germany impressed the European professionals.
"The interest really started with the work we did with Renato Augusto. He came here to recover from an injury, came back well, but didn't follow through with the treatment and ended up getting injured again. That's why Bayer sent a fitness trainer this year to monitor our work with him here at Flamengo. He filmed everything and brought the footage, which ended up being impressive," explained Daniel, who recounts the foreign professionals' fear of Brazilian talent.
"Brazil has the best professionals in physical preparation, physiotherapy, and the medical field. This is a certainty in the world of football. What happens is that our work is not recognized in other countries, especially in Europe. This happened to me a few times. A player would come from abroad for treatment, return feeling great, and the professionals at his club, to protect themselves, would say the treatment was not satisfactory. Europeans do this a lot."
But this protectionism, even though it was almost a rule, did not stop Flamengo's former physical trainer from getting closer to the German club, until he was effectively hired.
"I went to Germany on vacation at the beginning of December. I took the opportunity to get a closer look at Bayer's facilities, just as a tourist. But during this contact, they ended up making me a job offer. I spoke with the head fitness coach, and he explained that he'd like me to work with the entire squad, not just Renato Augusto. It will be a huge challenge and almost a pioneering feat. I hope it can open up a market for Brazilian professionals," he concluded, praising yet another pioneering achievement by a Flamengo professional in the world of soccer.
Daniel Jouvin is already leaving for Germany on the 3rd, but he won't get Flamengo out of his head or heart.
"Even from afar, I'll be rooting for everyone's success at Flamengo. I hope the club wins titles again and brings joy to so many fans."
