Anyone who watches Flamengo's U-23 team train in Gávea is impressed by the workload the players are subjected to. The Flamengo coaching staff makes the squad train hard every day to be in the best possible condition for matches. And the physical trainers emphasize the importance not only of the activities but also of the players' motivation during the workouts.

"It's important to be able to work a full week, as they say in soccer, because we can ensure all skills are well-trained physically, and the coach also has time to evaluate technical and tactical issues. The good thing is that this way, our cycle peaks right before the games. We do a complete job, with results that are visible on the field," said Diogo Linhares, responsible for the team's physical planning.

Alexandre Haicki, who worked for a long time with several of these players in the youth teams, praised the players' dedication and expressed confidence in a good performance, such as last Sunday (19.09), against Fluminense.

"I'm here to help Diogo, who planned the whole thing, and I'm very impressed with the team's performance. They were already at a strong pace and are maintaining that. Today, for example, we worked very hard and everyone responded very well. Their will is essential, and the results are evident on the field, like in Sunday's game against Fluminense, when everyone performed very well," he said.

Diogo, who also knows the players well, not only from the youth teams but also from his time as a professional assistant, believes that this good relationship is also essential.

"We already know everyone from the youth teams and even the professional team, where I'm an assistant and where I worked a lot with these players who weren't being used. It's good to have this relationship, because then they work even better. This motivation is so important, it really makes a difference," observed the coach, who explained how the planning is done with the players.

"It's different working with under-23s than with professionals. The basics of the work are more or less the same, but we speak to each player individually to check their physical condition and try to do a little more specific work with each one, especially post-game," he concluded.
